Thunee Rules

1. Introduction

Thunee is a popular trick-taking card game usually played by four players in fixed partnerships, using a deck of 24 cards. Partners sit opposite each other, and the game proceeds in a counterclockwise direction.

2. Card Ranking and Points

Teams score points based on the tricks they win. The team that loses the last round pays 10 points to the winning team. A total of 304 points are available.

Card Points
Jack 30 points
Nine 20 points
Ace 11 points
Ten 10 points
King 3 points
Queen 2 points

3. Dealing, Bidding, and Selecting Trump

4. Gameplay

5. Redeal

If the opposing team of the dealer has no trumps, the hand is void, and all cards are collected, shuffled, and redealt.

6. Thunee

After the final deal, any player may call “Thunee,” committing to select trump and win all six tricks. If successful, they win; if any other player wins a trick, they lose.

7. Royals

After the last two cards are dealt, players may call “Royals,” at which point the card ranking is reversed. The bidder must win all six tricks to win.

8. Jodhi

A player may only call Jodhi after their team wins the first or third trick. After each victory, they may call one or two Jodhis, with the opposing team paying the respective points.

9. Doubling

Calling “Double” means the bidder’s team will win all six tricks, and the bidder wins the last trick.

10. Reverse Double

When the scoring team calls “Reverse Double” after the opponents have called 10 points or more, it’s a challenge, claiming they will win all six tricks.

11. Khanuck

Only the team that has called Jodhi can call “Khanuck.” Specific conditions must be met for this to be successful.

12. Reverse Khanuck

Similar to Khanuck, but this is a challenge posed by the scoring team facing an already called bid.

13. Scoring

If neither Thunee, double, nor Khanuck is called, the opposing team totals the points of all the cards they won, needing 105 points to win.

14. Points

Situation Trump Team Wins Scoring Team Wins
No Trump Called 1 point 1 point
Bidding 10 Points or More 1 point 2 points

15. Deal Change

If “Deal Change” is selected, if the dealer's team loses this round, the same player will redeal.

16. Clear Twice

If “Clear Twice” is selected, and the game reaches 11-11 or 12-12, the team must lead their opponents by at least two points to win.
